Fishing in the Tahquamenon Area

The Michigan DNR has a lot of details about fishing. Check out this map for Tahquamenon Area Fishing holes.

Fishing licenses are available at Gene's Tahquamenon General Store. We have a nice selection of spinners, luers, Mepps, Rapala's, and carry fishing lines, bobbers, sinkers, hooks, and steel leaders. We have live bait: worms, crawlers, leeches, spawn, and a small selection of fishing poles.

FISHING WITH A BOAT

ANDRUS LAKE
Has a boat ramp and floating dock. Kids enjoy fishing on this lake. Has Small Mouth Bass and Perch.

BODI LAKE
Located off of CR 500 is great for pan fish, Walleye here is good.

BRIMLEY BAY
Common Catch is Perch, Pike, and Rockbass. Pay-for-Use Boat Launch, Perch and Rockbass use crawlers and minnows for Rockbass, fish the grass areas for Perch, fish where the small bay opens up to the larger bay. Look for the other boats. If perch are in, expect a fun day. Jumbo perch 10” – 14” are common. For Pike, troll just past the boat launch to the open bay as described above. Blue rapalas and red/white daredevils work best.

CALHOUN LAKE
The boat launch is open. Calhoun Lake is a great site for good Pike.

LITTLE LAKE HARBOR
Common Catch: Pike, Salmon, Perch

LOWER FALLS OF THE TAHQUAMENON RIVER
Ideal spot for the campers as well. Has Pike, Muskie, and Small Mouth Bass in the spring time.

MOUTH OF THE TWO HEARTED RIVER
Spring and late Fall is the best for Salmon fishing. This location is one of the best Salmon runs in the Upper Peninsula.

PIKE LAKE
Located on CR 414 has Perch, Small Mouth Bass and Pike. Accessible by boat only.

TAHQUAMENON RIVER
Common catch is Pike, Muskie, and some Perch. The best place to troll is at the mouth of the river. Concentrate from boat launch up stream to where the river branches. Most strikes will occur under and around the road pillions. Use large spoons, rapalas, and chugs. Remember the bigger the bait, the bigger the fish. Pike have been caught in excess of 40 inches.

WHITEFISH BAY
Extreme Caution must be observed when going out on to the bay, small boats, 14 foot and under are not recommended. Pay attention to the weather. Common catch is Whitefish, Perch, Salmon, and Lakers. Whitefish should be still fished. Use a jighead with a small piece of crawler or small minnow. Perch can be fished the same way. For salmon and lakers troll with downriggers. A fish/depth locator is very useful. Use standard deep water divers and spoons, squids.
